Psalm
25:1-10
Psalm 25 is a psalm of lament (a cry or expression of
sorrow, hurt, frustration or grief). So as you read allow verses 1-3 to be like
your Call to Worship/Prayer of Confession if you will. Lift up your life to Him. Follow the
psalmist’s example and express your heart to God. Be honest about your
frustration, hurt, sorrow…
Then allow verses 4-7 to be the Conclusion to that
Prayer. Ask Him
to not remember the sins of your youth but His own compassion and love. Not to
overlook our sin and its weight, but we are allowed to see our sin in
perspective when it is placed alongside the things of the Lord such as His love
and goodness!
Verses 8-10 need to be our Message while we wait and long for the
Messiah, our Declaration of Forgiveness. A message not only that we should share with
others but for ourselves as not to lose our way in longing for things to be
made right.
I just
love 4&5! Do any of these verses stand out to you?
Psalm
25:4&5
Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for
you I wait all day long. nas
Show me
your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me,
you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. niv
Advent is
a time where we should as children of God be marked by a spirit of expectation,
of anticipation, of preparation, of longing for the Messiah. Not only looking
forward to celebrating Jesus birth but also looking to Jesus second coming
wherein he will bring peace and justice and righteousness to the world. Times
of waiting for the Lord involve lament as much as trust. We need to be honest
with God if we ever want to experience His healing in any situation. Our honest
expression to God is a beginning in allowing Him to work in and through our
situation.
